Assignment 3
Final Paper — 30% of your final grade

Choosing your subject

You will choose to work on any subject we have covered in class for your final paper. We will spend lots of time thinking about this, and a rubric is in the “Begin Here” folder.

Please don't choose a subject that falls wholly or substantially after 300 BC (e.g. the Roman conquest of Greece, Athens in Late Antiquity, the Conversion of the Parthenon into a Christian church, etc.). I hope we have covered much of this in our class discussion — there is a grading rubric posted on Bb: Begin Here folder if you wish to consult it.

Length & format

This should be c. 1500 words (12pt font, c. 5–6 double-spaced pages).

Your paper should include a separate bibliography (a list of works cited in your footnotes), which is not included in the word count. Please use any citation system that suits you, or works for your major — it can be any recognized convention (Chicago, MLA, AHA, Harvard, etc.) so long as you are consistent.

Sources

Remember to identify and rely on a substantial body of peer-reviewed secondary literature — not just videos, web pages, online encyclopedias, etc.

Using AI

YesYou can use AI for research and for identifying primary sources and peer-reviewed literature.
NoYou cannot ask it to write your paper.

Where do I find the full details?

Notes on length, formatting, and submission can be seen at “Submit Assignments Here” on Blackboard, and are repeated above — but rely on Blackboard, since that is our official portal, if anything is different there.
